The Great Hall in Cardiff’s Student Union was the perfect venue for the K’s and their support acts, Megan Wyn and CVC to wow the Welsh contingent.
Megan Wyn opened up the show with an outstanding performance to get the crowd warmed up. The stunning vocals from Megan were mesmerising, and accompanied by her guitarist and drummer, who didn’t miss a beat, put on an engaging and flawless set to show the crowd what they should expect from the rest of the night.
CVC followed, again ramping up the show with their blend of indie, funky guitar riffs and an assortment of synths. The boys from CVC managed to grip a now rowdy Welsh crowd, with their catchy melodies and energy with each song more and more engaging. CVC built the energy of the venue near tipping point.
Then it was time for the K’s. Flashing lights that could have caused an epileptic fit built up the atmosphere for the K’s arrival. The crowd’s anticipation was felt, and a roar was unleashed when the K’s took to the stage. The boys took to hyping up the crowd before starting their set with ‘Gravestone’. Not much was needed to get the crowd involved as an eruption of song happened within the first thirty seconds of the song starting.
The lead vocalist had an outstanding amount of energy whilst keeping composure, no pitchy vocals the entire night and kept the banter between the crowd at a good level, with shouts of WALES, WALES, WALES coming from the crowd in between songs.
The lead guitarist was an absolute onslaught of heavy riffs and the most amount of energy I have seen from a guitarist in a long time. He played the guitar like it was nothing, all while engaging with the crowd and bouncing around the stage. Reminding me of the energy that AC/DC lead guitarist brings to their show.
The rest of the band were in absolute sync all the way through the night. Their chemistry and passion for their music was shown in Cardiff last night. They have also shown that indie rock is still as big as ever especially with a finale of their hit ‘Sarajevo’.
A great night in Cardiff, I believe leaving their fans with high hopes of the release of their new album, ‘Pretty on the Internet’.
