As fans eagerly packed into Club Academy from 7:30 for a night of dynamic hip-hop, there was an electric buzz in the air, anticipating not just the headliner, Killer Mike, but also his long-time DJ, Trackstar. Known for his role as the tour DJ for Run The Jewels and his adapt ability to blend tracks seamlessly, DJ Trackstar proved once again why he is a vital part of Killer Mike’s live shows.

The atmosphere inside the venue was already brimming with excitement when DJ Trackstar took his position behind the turntables. With a simple nod to the crowd, he kicked off the evening with a high-energy set that immediately set the tone. Mixing a combination of classic hip-hop tracks, contemporary hits, and deep cuts, Trackstar's set was an eclectic journey through the genre's diverse landscape. His transitions were smooth, and his scratching was sharp, displaying his skills with a confident flair that kept the audience engaged and moving.

On a warm but rainy night, the crowd at Club academy in Manchester was buzzing with anticipation. As the lights dimmed, an excited hush fell over the audience, and all eyes turned toward the stage. The atmosphere was thick with anticipation for the arrival of one of hip-hop’s most dynamic and thought-provoking artists, Killer Mike.

The lighting was mesmerising with exuberant strobes of red and yellow racing across the academy. The doleful choir added a sense of anticipation and eagerness for the transition and flow into the next song. Killer Mikes old school style rap connected deeply with all ages of the audience as it reminded them of the legend The Notorious B.I.G.

From the moment Killer Mike stepped onto the stage, it was clear the audience was in for a memorable night. Clad in a simple white T-shirt and his signature gold chain, Mike exuded an air of confidence and charisma that captivated the audience instantly. Opening with the hard-hitting “DOWN BY LAW” the rapper wasted no time in setting the tone for the evening—one of high energy, powerful lyrics, and undeniable stage presence.

Backed by a live DJ and a Gospel style choir, Killer Mike's performance felt raw and authentic, a far cry from the over-produced shows of some of his contemporaries. His deep, booming voice resonated through the venue, cutting through the beat with precision, power and fluidity. As he transitioned into tracks from his critically acclaimed solo work, like “Reagan” and “R.A.P. Music,” the crowd erupted, reciting every word back to him with joy !

But it wasn’t just the music that made the night special. Between songs, Killer Mike took time to engage with the audience, sharing stories and anecdotes that provided context for his lyrics and insight into his views on social justice, his background and community. His sincerity and passion for these topics were palpable, adding another layer of depth to his performance and reminding the audience that he is not just an entertainer but also a gentle being and a leader.

Killer Mike's concert was an electrifying experience that blended music, message, and momentum. It was a night that will not soon be forgotten by anyone lucky enough to be in attendance.
