Shania Twain took to the stage at Summer Sessions 2024 in Stirling, following a widely discussed performance at Glastonbury that left many fans disappointed due to technical issues. This time around, she managed to deliver a more polished show, although it still fell short of the high expectations set for someone of her iconic status.

Twain's performance at Glastonbury had been marred by sound problems and a lack of cohesion, casting a shadow over her return to the UK festival circuit. In Stirling, the technical aspects were much improved, allowing her distinctive voice and charismatic stage presence to shine through more effectively. Hits like "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" and "That Don't Impress Me Much" were met with enthusiastic applause, and her rapport with the audience was undeniably warm and engaging. However, the overall performance lacked the seamless precision one might expect from an artist with her long-standing career. There were moments where her vocals wavered and the band seemed slightly out of sync, leading to a show that was enjoyable but not outstanding.

Supporting Twain were Rag’n’Bone Man and Delta Goodrem, both of whom added significant value to the evening. Delta Goodrem opened the night with her blend of pop and soulful ballads, captivating the crowd with her powerful vocals and emotive performance. Songs like "Born to Try" and "Sitting on Top of the World" showcased her range and ability to connect with the audience, setting a positive tone for the evening.

However, it was Rag’n’Bone Man who truly stole the show. His deep, gravelly voice and heartfelt delivery captivated the audience from the moment he stepped on stage. Performing hits such as "Human" and "Skin," he brought a raw intensity that was both refreshing and moving. His presence was commanding, and he had the crowd in the palm of his hand throughout his set. Rag’n’Bone Man's performance was a highlight of the night, and fans will be pleased to know he is continuing his tour with a show in Glasgow this November, which promises to be an event not to be missed.

In summary, while Shania Twain’s performance at Summer Sessions 2024 was a marked improvement from her Glastonbury appearance, it still did not quite meet the standards one would expect from a music icon. Her set was enjoyable, with moments of brilliance, but was not consistently clean or cohesive. The support acts, particularly Rag’n’Bone Man, provided a strong foundation for the night and arguably outshone the headliner. Seeing Shania Twain live is certainly a memorable experience, but those looking for a flawless live performance might find themselves slightly underwhelmed.
