As birthday parties go, this was an epic one. CLYDE 1 celebrated its first 50 years in grand style with a sold-out gig at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro. The event, CLYDE 1 Live, brought together some of Scotland's finest musical talents, making it a night to remember.
The evening kicked off with CLYDE 1 presenter George Bowie, who performed one of his legendary GBX sets in front of the 12,500-strong audience. He was joined on stage by Bowie@Breakfast co-presenter Cassi and fellow CLYDE 1 presenter Callum Gallacher, who also treated the crowd to a fantastic DJ set. The momentum was kept high throughout the evening with these energetic performances.
To further excite the audience, there was a surprise appearance by Nathan Evans, who dropped in to perform his huge hit "Heather On The Hill", adding an extra layer of excitement to the night.
Tom Walker then took the stage, performing his hits including "Burn" and "Leave the Light On". Having seen him previously at the O2, it's clear that Tom is a phenomenal live performer and an absolute must-see. His performance set the tone for an incredible evening.
Next up was Emeli Sandé, who performed three songs and played the piano. Although her set wasn't the highlight of the night, she finished strong with "Next to Me", which had the crowd going. Following Emeli was Amy Macdonald, who captivated the audience with her energetic performance. Amy's set had everyone singing along, even to songs they weren’t familiar with, and she concluded with her classic "This is the Life", leaving the audience wanting more.
After a short break, Callum Beattie took the stage, and from his first song, everyone was up on their feet. His set was a rollercoaster of emotions, featuring upbeat songs and a touching ballad dedicated to his Gran, which brought many to tears. Callum ended with the well-known "Salamander Street", and the crowd’s reaction made it clear they wanted more. He was undoubtedly the show-stealer of the evening!
Closing the night were CLYDE 1 favourites Texas, who performed classic hits such as "Say What You Want". They were definitely crowd-pleasers, providing a perfect end to the celebration.
If you couldn’t make it in person, don't worry – you can hear the whole gig again on CLYDE 1 from 4pm on Sunday, June 2nd, on 'Clyde 1 Live REPLAY'. Overall, CLYDE 1 Live’s 50th birthday celebration was a tremendous success, highlighting the incredible talent of Scottish artists and showcasing why CLYDE 1 is so proud to be Scotland's number one radio station. It was a memorable evening, and it's clear that Callum Beattie is one to watch, as his popularity is only set to soar from here.
