THE WARNING // GLASGOW GARAGE, GLASGOW
THE WARNING LIVE AT SOLD-OUT PERFORMANCE AT GLASGOW’S GARAGE
★★★★☆ (4/5)
Rock music is one of the most expansive genres around. There is no shortage of fusion styles and categories to give listeners variety like never before. With modern rock bands being the dominate force on the live music scene today, it shows that we are in a time where the world is truly accepting the thrashing sound that it once herded underground.
With the strong competition of the likes of Sleep Token, Baby Metal and Ghost; for new artists, there is an overcrowded market, and for fans, there is a bountiful feast. Served up like a toffee sauce , The Warning are clearly here to indulge music fans.
So, who are The Warning? And how did these young ladies from quickly come to find themselves with their own completely sold-out European tour?
Three sisters, Alejandra, Paulina, and Daniela Villarreal Vélez, make up the The Warning. From Monterrey, Mexico, the trio presented with an early creative flare and it seems as though band practice for the group started at a very early age. The band’s drummer, Paulina, was profiled in the women's drumming publication Tom Tom Magazine in 2014 when she was just 12-years-old.
They have had many landmark bookings as support for the likes of Foo Fighters, Muse, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple and Def Leopard to name few. The Warning have taken centre stage with this tour and it was time to see what they could do as the main course.
It was a ‘tin of sardines’ kind of gig. People jammed themselves in to any space they could find in Glasgow's celebrated, hard and heavy club/music venue, The Garage. There was great spread in audience; some more mature rockers, some more fresh faced, yet, everyone looked giddy and excited from the get go.
The Warning took to the stage and quickly launched into their first song S!CK. It was obvious the set was going to be a fast-paced, explosion of hits; the type of gig where you don’t have time to catch your breath between songs before you are enveloped into the next. This night was all about the music and that what has taken the band to this incredible point.
The girls cycled through heavy, pop rock tracks like the musical epitome of sweet and salty. The crowd is filled with fans that are deeply transfixed by the group. People are dancing and moshing freely and passionately. The tracks CHOKE, MONEY and Automatic Sun standout as favourites from the set, however, the night is set with its climatic encore Narcisista and EVOLVE.
The Warning shine with talent as all three members fill the stage with their presence. They take turns as the main vocalist throughout and display cohesion and power with their vocals. They are dynamic on stage without making their performance in any way a novelty. The Warning delighted fans and gave strong and perfected night of their heavy sound.
