PENDULUM // OVO HYDRO, GLASGOW
PENDULUM BRING THEIR HUGE SOUNDS AND ENERGY TO GLASGOW'S OVO HYDRO
★★★★★ (5/5)
Opening tonight we have Australian drum and bass producer and DJ Shockone.
Blending different styles within the genre, his set captivates the crowd with dynamic mixes and brilliant stage presence.
Up next we have the English rapper/singer/songwriter Scarlxrd.
Appearing stood on top of scaffolding, he launches himself off it to start the set. This energy is a sign of what is to come.
Never standing in the one place for more than about 0.5 seconds, it's genuinely hard to keep track of Scarlxrd as he bolts around the Hydro stage.
There is a good chunk of the crowd you can tell were absolutely ecstatic when he was added as support, as we hear multiple shouts of his name and mass singalongs to the set.
With massive energy and huge tunes throughout, Scarlxrd is definitely one to keep an eye on!
The stage set up we have for tonight's headliners Pendulum is mega, a humongous LCD screen spanning the full of the stage and the sides kicks in with a tremendous intro video hyping everyone up before the band take to the stage.
Opening with new song "Napalm" - which is a certified BANGER - immediately sends the full venue in to chaos.
We then get "Crush" and "Propane Nightmares" before things are well and truly kicked up an insane amount of levels with "Blood Sugar". The fan favourite sees limbs everywhere and includes snippets of "Baddadan" and the band's remix of The Prodigy's "Voodoo People".
We have Scarlxrd back on to do his vocal parts on "Mercy Killing" before "The Island - Pt. 1 (Dawn)" has the full venue singing the synth hook. For the outro of this track we also have a video on the big screens of Scottish comedy legend Limmy doing a DJ set, which gets a giggle and goes down well.
A proper highlight of the set comes in "Halo". Sadly there is no live vocals from Matt Tuck but we have his album vocals blasted over the speakers. The full track is just a whirlwind of amazing noise and energy, and has everyone thrashing around in enjoyment.
The main set is closed off with huge songs (Pendulum have so many of these!) "Tarantula" and "Watercolour". In "Tarantula" the massive screens are utilised but this time we have big tarantulas crawling over them, somewhat disconcerting for an arachnophobe, but impressive none the less!
The band are back on for an encore of "The Tempest" which is a brilliant way to round off the evening, giving the room one last chance to lose their minds.
Pendulum are a ridiculously good live outfit, and one you should go to see if you have the chance!
