NYC-based soul-pop group Lawrence brought their Family Business tour to Vancouver on Oct 16th, with the talented Lindsey Lomis (LA) warming the crowd up with her beautifully controlled vocals and charming wit.

If one were to describe Lawrence’s performance in a word, fronted by sibling duo Gracie and Clyde Lawrence, it would be: FUN. From the second the band took the stage to the last moments of the night, it was clear that everyone in the venue was having an absolute blast.

They opened with the tour title track, ‘Family Business’, introduced at the start with a live camera to two video walls on stage. The production quality was high, yet tasteful and never felt too much. The video walls were used at times to stream a live camera angle, and other times displaying fun (there it is again) visuals that took the performance to a whole new level.

Gracie and Clyde Lawrence gave the enthusiastic audience a break from the dancing to treat them to an acoustic portion of their set, the crowd joining in for a wholesome rendition of ‘The Weather’. ‘Something in The Water’ transitioned the band back into normal programming, with openers Lindsey Lomis and her accompanying keys player Heather Revas joining them onstage for a groovy rendition of Destiny Child’s ‘Say My Name’.

The set was rounded out by two bops in ‘Do You Wanna Do Nothing With Me’ and ‘Don’t Lose Sight’, an ode to the band’s belief in doing things uniquely as an independent band. Their encore set included fan favourite ‘Heartburn’ and their current Top 40 hit off Family Business, ‘Whatcha Want’.

In summary, Lawrence knows how to put on a show, consider us (and the sold out Commodore Ballroom) thoroughly entertained!
