DERMOT KENNEDY // OVO HYDRO, GLASGOW

It’s the last day of March but the first day of Dermot Kennedy’s The ‘Sonder’ tour in the UK and what better way to kick it off than being in Glasgow and breaking the OVO Hydro’s record of tickets sold for a single show!

★★★★★ (5/5)

As the room began to fill up with gig goers, the lights went dark and onto the stage came Noah Kahan, an American singer who told the crowd he’s been called ‘The Jewish Ed Sheeran’ but that ‘Tonight baby I’m folk Malone’.

Noah played a strong setlist to get the crowd warmed up. He produced strong vocals along with a melodic pop-folk backing from his guitar and band throughout his set. The crowd definitely loved him by the sound of their singing along and the cheers that erupted.

It was finally time for Dermot Kennedy to take to the stage, the room was packed as they all waited in anticipation for the show to start. The lights went dark and the backing band began to play as the crowd erupted into cheers. Dermot left us in suspense for a few minutes before finally appearing on stage.

His setlist consisted of a mixture of older songs and newer songs which the crowd were absolutely loving from the first song to the last as they sang in unison. His setlist contained his biggest hits including “Power Over Me”, “Better Days”, “Kiss Me” & “Outnumbered” that had the crowd dancing along. Halfway through the set he reminisced over playing Stereo back in 2017 to a crowd of around 400 people to now playing the OVO Hydro and selling out.

Towards the end of his set he faced some technical difficulties but kept the crowd entertained by introducing everyone to the band he had performing with him before continuing the last few songs. He announced that it was time for his last song and ended his set with “Something to Someone”.
