Lewis Capaldi brings his current tour to Glasgow’s iconic venue The Ovo Hydro which sold out in seconds and first to take to the stage was student Broghan that Lewis picked out to perform when he visited his old college to warm up the crowd as they filled the room.
After a short interval RAYE came onto the stage with just her piano and introduced herself receiving a very warm welcome from the crowd before her band joined her on stage for the rest of her set. RAYE was a hit with the crowd singing along and having a good time throughout her full set, even during her new songs that will be released with her album in a few days. RAYE’s charisma on the stage was amazing and she really connected with the crowd getting them warmed up before Lewis Capaldi. The set ended on a high with her song ‘Escapism’ that had the crowd going wild.
It was now time for the main man himself Lewis Capaldi to take to the stage and his set began with some instrumental music before the screen lifted showing his band on platforms as they began the instrumentals for “Forget Me” followed by Lewis producing some strong amazing vocals as he began to sing the opening of the song and then greeting the crowd “Right Glasgow, lets f*****g go!”. Along came the chorus again and the crowd took over as confetti got launched which was still lingering in the air as he went on to sing “Forever” and “Lost On You”.
Capaldi then greeted the crowd once more as he shouted “Glasgow you beautiful f*****g c***s how we doing?” and chatted for a bit telling the crowd to make sure they seek help if they feel unwell due to fans fainting at the show in Aberdeen before continuing his set which consisted of a new song “Heavenly Kind of State of Mind” that proved to be a hit amongst the crowd followed by a more upbeat version of “Fade” and “Before You Go” before leaving stage for a short interval.
Halfway through the set Capaldi appeared raised on a high platform with a piano for “Bruises”. He then made a few jokes and had the crowd laughing before claiming “Elton John’s got nothing on me, I’m a rocket man” instigating a sing along to the popular song before admitting that was a weird way of introducing his new song “Wish You The Best” that got followed by “Grace” and “Leave Me Slowly” which another one of Capaldi’s new songs that he claimed to be “fresh out the womb”.
Before he sang his most recently released song “Pointless” Capaldi thanked the crowd for making it a number 1 in the UK. He then ended with “Hold Me While You Wait” before announcing he would be back for two more songs after a quick break.
First song of the encore was “How I’m Feeling Now” which Capaldi described as being a song about his mental health followed by the last song which of course had to be “Someone You Loved” which was clearly a hit as the full crowd took over singing as he stood on the stage sporting a Scottish flag that someone from the crowd passed on.
Lewis Capaldi is an incredible artist with such a great stage presence and sense of humour that kept the crowd entertained throughout and gave Glasgow another night to remember. Throughout the full set the crowd sang their hearts out taking over the full arena. It is definitely not surprising that Capaldi continues to sell out arena tours and he will only be going up from here.
