★★★★☆ (4/5)
With high anticipation ‘The Script’ come to Brighton Centre with a bumper set list with celebrating their 2o year odd anniversary spanning 6 albums and dozens of hit singles! Four of their 6 albums have gained platinum status!
The Script are an Irish band formed in 2007 in Dublin and they first released music in 2008. The band consists of lead singer Danny O’ Donoghue. Lead guitarist Mark Sheehan and drummer Glen Power and tonight’s show is no mean feat featuring confetti cannons with computer graphics and an extended stage set!
For tonight’s show support stems from the 2012 X Factor contestant ‘Ella Henderson’. With a good start to the evening and getting the crowd vocal cords going with the words ‘ Brighton are you ready for a rave..’ Ella performed a mix of songs old and new, including material from her recently released album, ‘Everything I Don’t Say’, including a collaboration with Becky Hill and David Guetta, ‘Crazy what Love can do’, along with old favourites ’Risk it All’ and ‘Ghost’ Ella Henderson felt right at home on the large stage in her glitter sparkly outfit with the high crowd interaction!
I was not long till the Script with their ‘Tales from the Script set’ exploded onto the Brighton Centre stage with Danny in the middle of the stage, in a spotlight with the Confetti canons raining down into the rowing audience to set the energy levels for tonight’s show! No expensive had been sparred with the stage production as their thundered their way through the opening songs ‘Superheroes’ and ‘Rain’.
You can see that getting the audience interacted was high with Danny and Mark priorities, seamlessly tracking from one side of the stage to another, with the likes of crowd pleasers such as ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’ and The Last Time’
In one intimate and personal moment, actually performing in the crowd at the back when Danny Donoghue asked a audience member to pass his phone to him so he could facetime and sing to his ex-partner Katie the song, ‘if you could see me now consequently displayed on the large screen at the back of the stage for everyone to see!
The evening came to an uplifting close with their baggiest commercial hits ‘Breakeven’ and ‘Hall of Fame’. It was evident that how everyone in the crowd missed this kind of stage show, Danny was gleaming though the night in a ‘Coldplay’ like rock show manner with everyone singing along to their catchy choruses together with ponding pianos and drums! With a Happy buzzing audience ‘The Script’ demonstrated how ever popular the band had remained in a large arena setting!
