The tightly packed in crowd were in for a treat tonight as the long overdue appearance of the original India Rockers ‘The Snuts’ finally made it to Brighton for an appearance at Chalk Venue to showcase their new album ‘Burn their Empire’

The Snuts are a Scottish band formed in West Lothian in 2015 and consists of members Jack Cochrane on Vocals and guitar, Joe McGilleray on guitar, Callum ‘29’ Wilson on bass and Jordan ‘Joko’ Mackay on the drums. The band were formed when the members were at school and have appeared across England and Ireland with various Festival appearances in the past. Expectations were high as to hear the indie rockers still sounded sonically and lyrically fresh and just as good to hear as after the absence of live music because of the pandemic with some new songs played live!

One a more gentler note tonight’s support stems from song writer Heidi Curtis. She projects herself full of emotion across the stage welcoming the early arrivals with some wishful song writing. From Newcastle she got the heads popping with her songs with a smile on her face. In the past he as graced the stage as support with Sam Fender playing in front larger audiences on the tour with ease with her multi instrumental talents.

After a short interval as the venue has a 10pm curfew the lights dim and the drum roll introduces The Snuts to the stage, accompanied with a backdrop of powerful phrases displayed on the neon led sign behind the band. The stage seem seemed a bit small for all the band members plus instruments to fit on. But Jack Cochrane makes up with it with is projection and interaction with the audience. The song ‘Knuckles’ portrays social media angst with some snarl infused punk riffs.

A real Festival anthem crowd pleaser is ‘Glasgow ; and On a odd psychedelic ride ‘Zuckerpunch’ is more a warehouse rave resemblance and remembrance how the 90’s were but overall the band are more political driven to today’s frustrations of the fan base.

The security had to keep the crowd surfers at bay whist a few half empty plastic pint glasses went flying through the air and frustrations to space restrictions were remedied by that the 5 Piece band brought energy and overall performance to the stage. You could tell the band were enjoying the night down in Brighton on this leg of the tour and would be more at home playing on a larger stage in the near future.
