TWIN ATLANTIC // CONCORDE 2, BRIGHTON
“Fourteen Years of Gigging and never a broken Guitar till now”, Twin Atlantic Take the Stage at the Concorde in Brighton for an eagerly awaited, sold out, comeback show!
★★★★☆ (4/5)
It’s been a long time coming with all the pandemic restrictions and the Concorde finally being able to put on some shows and open up its doors to full capacity. Naturally would sell out in an instance. Tonight’s show was the originally scheduled Twin Atlantic Tour from way back in April 2020 in conjunction with the new album launch. With five albums under their belt, the anticipation was high for this Bank Monday show! Tonight’s being of the set felt vivid and bright with the new songs ‘ Novocano ‘ and ‘ Volcano ’ being played from the latest album Power being played, with a more daring feel to their earlier gritty guitar laden rock anthems!
Twin Atlantic are Scotland’s favourite alternative rock band from Glasgow with consists of current group members Sam McTrusty , lead vocals, Ross McNae on Bass and Craig Kneale on Drums. Lead guitarist Barry MacKena departed from the band in 2019 but continues to perform live with the band.
Tonight’s set heads straight into the new albums ‘Power’ 1980’s synth pop, a stark contrast to the previous albums, stadium filling Rock anthems feel. But Sam soon captivates the Audience with shooting, “How is everyone feeling tonight? is it not f**king great to be playing again as it’s been 18 months now since a live show.’
Tonight’s tour support band as a pleasant surprise, comes from Bloxx, a London based quartet who have already contracted a solid reputation on the live circuit with already playing alongside indie giants Two Door Cinema Club and The Wombats. Before the pandemic their hit up major festivals stages such as Community Festival in Finsbury Park. Tonight their tore across the stage with full on soring energy! Fan favourite was Played, ‘Coming Up short’, a song with a festival mosh-pit loving crowd in mind. Lead Vocalist Fee Both effortless floats across the stage to ‘5000 miles ‘ taken from the pre pandemic released debut album with coming together speedy grit guitars! One can tell with tonight’s energy, they have really missed playing live in front of an audience with Bloxx fitting in nicely on the Concorde 2 stage with space to bounce about!
Twin Atlantic’s set could have benefited from with some more upbeat anthems with a brief period through the near end of the set with some solo acoustic songs, including , ‘Cash Land’ taken from the’ Power’ album. being played and with a brief moment when a guitar technical hitch and, Sam announcing ‘…in they fourteen years gigging history this has never happened before to Ross.’, but tonight’s balance, variety and sharpness of the songs are a good thing and stick in one’s mind as the band has evolved since ditching they old record label! Conventionally, the evening soon comes to a close far too soon with Sam waiving his good bye leaving a captivated audience at today’s sold out show with an audience eager to hear just one more after being away for such a long time and ready and buzzing for more live shows to come, as one has forgotten the joys of live music!
