THE S.L.P. // SWG3: GALVANIZER'S, GLASGOW
The S.L.P. brought his ‘one man show’ to stage for the first time in Glasgow on Thursday night, but it is fair to say there was no lack of experience. Serge’s year’s of performing with Kasabian put him in good stead to put on a blinder.

The gig started with Serge walking on stage with only an acoustic guitar wearing some bright green joggies and a tank top performing two Kasabian tunes; “U Boat” and “Test Transmission”. Perhaps a sign to show that Kasabian is not to be forgotten and still very much in his heart. However, the rest of the gig was clearly a statement on how Pizzorno has his own ideas.
The stage itself was different from the normal Kasabian set up, with two large screens hiding the backing band to isolate Serge in all his glory and gave him space to run around and put on the show all by himself.
These blackout screens were used to project different scenes from pop culture, no doubt to Serge’s approval. They also provided the perfect backdrop for Serge’s shadows to dance upon.
After a quick outfit change Serge was back and jumped straight into ‘Lockdown’ and ‘Favourites’
Screens showed a skit starring Serge and actor Stephen Graham, displaying what seemed to be a spoof shopping channel try to sell all sorts of shite, literally (also using this an opportunity to plug the album, it is a topper to be fair). This was followed by Serge appearing again on stage, this time in a suit and behind a podium, gibbing the impression he was giving a speech (song - “only let her out on the weekend”)
Pizzorno didn’t do much talking between songs, but when he did he addressed the audience with as if they were his closest friends. “How are yous, let’s do this bro’s” he asked before breaking into massive tune ‘Nobody Else’. A chorus of “oh Serge Pizzorno”.
During the song he decided to go a little walk about into the pit, singing along with fans.
After yet another outfit change, Serge brought out an electric guitar to belt out ‘The Youngest Gary’, with the heavy intro riff blaring through the Galvanisers.
Adressing the crowd once more, Serge told the crowd “this ones called The Wu, it’s a bit of a banger” and he isn’t wrong. Hearing the songs brought to life really gives you the impression that this is a serious solo project and not to be laughed at.
During the track he disappeared from the stage which became occupied by a 3 piece electronic band. Suddenly, appearing from a side door, Pizzorno was in the middle of the crowd dancing along with fans. “It’s scary in here innit”.
Dedicated last song ‘((trance))’ to the fans and thanked for all the support. It’s clear that The SLP is an excuse for Serge to experiment down musical avenue’s which he may not of had the chance to before. You could tell that he was loving it as much as the punters which made it even more special. The atmosphere was electric from the start to finish.
The S.L.P. still has a few dates of this short tour to go and I would highly recommend grabbing a ticket if you can, the show is not to be missed.
