Opening the night at the unearthly kick off time of 6:30pm are Danko Jones . The threesome take to the stage and vocalist/guitarist Danko Jones himself appears to be surprised at the size of the crowd already in the venue as he comments on the time and says it’s on,y real Rock ‘n’ Roll fans who come out at this time which receives an almighty cheer . They start the set with ‘ I gotta rock ‘ and power through ‘ Fists up high ‘ and ‘ First date ‘ . I have to say I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of this band , having obviously heard of them and read great things about them , im ashamed to say i’ve not actually heard much of their music , which is my bad , im really enjoying them . Jones himself is ably backed by John Calabrese on bass and Rich Knox on drums. Unfortunately they only have a 30 min set which flies by and ‘Had enough ‘ followed by ‘My little RnR’
close the set , they leave the stage to massive and thoroughly deserved applause. I for one will definitely be back to see them.

Second on the bill are Baroness who hail from Savannah , Georgia . They class themselves as rock/Indie and metal . I personally would add a bit of Prog Rock to that too. The 4 piece consist of John Baizley on guitar and vocals , Gina Gleason on guitar and vocals , Nick Jost on bass and keyboards and Sebastian Thomson on drums . They get through songs such as ‘Can Oscura’ , ‘Shock me ‘ , ‘Take my bones away’ and ‘ Tourniquet ‘ . There is no denying the musicianship on show , but personally i’m not sure how they fitted into tonights bill with 2 out and out rock and roll bands . The lighting for them was also mean and moody , however they get a good round of applause at the end of their set.

Gina Gleason -Guitar / Vocals
Nick Jost – Bass / Keyboards.

Stars of tonight’s sold out and absolutely packed show are Volbeat . The opening bars of ‘Cheapside Sloggers’ from new album , Rewind Replay Rebound starts and the crowd surfers take to the air and don’t leave until the last note of the encore , it is absolutely constant and it’s not all teenagers , there are a few “ older “ faces running out from behind the barrier back to where they were and starting all over again. ‘Doc Holliday ‘ and ‘Let it burn ‘ are up next . The crowd is getting hotter and stickier by the second but there is not 1 second that the band let up . Michael Poulsen on vocals and guitars is the ultimate frontman with that distinctive voice and guitar sound. Rob Caggiano on guitar , Kasper Boye Larsen on bass and Jon Larson bringing up the rear on drums add to the incredible ability of this band .New song ‘Pelvis on fire ‘ followed by crowd favourite ‘ Lola Montez ‘ which is sung back to the band follow . The band carry on through ‘Die to Live ‘ from the new album , ‘ Fallen’ and ‘Sorry sack of bones ‘ which is one of my favourites from the new album all get fantastic applause. Current single ‘ Last day under the sun ‘ which is inspired by Johnny Cash is a show highlight and ‘ Goat ‘ close the set . Of course there will be an encore which opens with ‘ The devils bleeding crown ‘ and ends with ‘Still Counting’
A hot sweaty night for all , an absolutely fantastic performance by the band and more than a few still singing ears on the way home and probably the next morning too.
