MACHINE GUN KELLY // O2 INSTITUTE, BIRMINGHAM
Machine Gun Kelly puts on high-energy show at Birmingham’s O2 Institute
★★★★★ (5/5)
On 3oth August, days after his performances at Reading and Leeds Festivals, acclaimed rapper Machine Gun Kelly headlined a sold-out intimate show at Birmingham’s O2 Institute as part of his “Hotel Diablo World Tour”.
As the lights dim, moments later Machine Gun Kelly took to the stage at O2 Institute, his presence was met with huge response from dedicated Brum fans. He kicked off his “Hotel Diablo World Tour” Birmingham show with “Sex Drive” shortly followed by “Habits”, which had an autobiographic vibe to the track which was instantly lured by his brum audience in the set, this was then followed by tracks “Breaking News 2” and new tune “El Diablo”.
His overall set included new tracks from new album and also tracks from his previous three studio albums “Lace Up”, “General Admission”, and “Bloom”. Some oldies included “Let You Go” and “See My Tears”. The majority of set included tracks off the new album some were “Roulette”, “Candy”, “Hollywood Whore”, which was another autobiographical tune which Machine Gun Kelly nailed.
He surprised fans performing covers during his set as well, he performed Billie Eillish’s “Ocean Eyes” and Oasis’s “Wonderwall” both which delighted by Brum fans who course turned the O2 Institute into massive choir singing along to lyrics to each song. Of course one of the highlight moments of the night was when he belted out the 1983 Motley Crue classic “Shout at the Devil” which went down a storm with the Brum crowd.
Other well received songs included the spitfire “Till I Die”, “Floor 13” and other tracks like “GTS” and “Loco”. He wasn’t afraid to belt out the bold yet vituperative on “Bad Mother F****r, while performing “Wasted Love” shortly before.
He also performed his infectious single, the liberating “I Think I’m OKAY” which has earned him a favourable feedback from all his fans and rightly so. The lyrics were also displayed on the screen behind him during the performance while he was accompanied himself playing his electric guitar. He has recently released the track which now features YUNGBLUD and Travis Barker on the track.
Machine Gun Kelly concluded his great energetic show with “27” and “Burning Memories”. Overall, the American rapper was able to put on a great electrifying show at Birmingham’s O2 Institute. He was commanded on the stage well as he had Brum crowd helping him every way during the performance. Machine Gun Kelly is a definitely a multifaceted entertainer which is well worth seeing live wherever he plays.
