Noel Gallagher and the High Flying Birds arrived in the idylic setting of Bught Park in Inverness, the ancient capital of Scotland, to wow the Highlands division of his ever increasing fan base, and what a show he gave them. New tunes, old tunes, tunes he wouldnt get away with not singing, and plenty banter with the Scottish crowd, and a great night was had by all.

Supported on the night by Neon Waves and Razorlight, both bands gave a great account of themselves and went down very well with the bumper crowd in the massive park, setting the pace perfectly for the ex Oasis star, who was greeted with an enormous cheer when he first stepped thru the curtains at the rear of the stage.

Opening the 18 strong song set with Fort Knox and Holy Mountain, from his third album, Gallagher had the crowd in the palm of his hand from the word go! Continuing the running order from Who Built The Moon, Keep On Reaching, Its a Beautiful World and She Taught Me How to Fly followed on next, the band in great form and the crowd word perfect.

New track Black Star Dancing was next before the first of many dips back into the Oasis catalogue throughout the evening. Talk Tonight and Little By Little, both storming tunes and the crowd loved the old classics. Gallagher could easily step back and let the crowd sing on his behalf.

A couple of tracks from the first album, 2 belters in Everybodys On The Run and AKA…. What a Life, both up there with some of the best stuff he’s written. And talking of such, it was back to the Oasis tunes for (nearly!) the duration of the night. Firstly, the acoustic section, where Gallagher insisted on crowd participation. Whatever, The Masterplan, Wonderwall, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Half The World Away, the theme from BBCs The Royle Family, and Dont Look Back In Anger. Six blockbuster pieces of music. Any musician would love to have written one of these in their career, but for Noel Gallagher to have penned them all underlines the undoubted talents of the man. Each song a classic, a crowd pleaser, a show stopper, call them what you like. Music that will stand the test of time,

As the clock slid past the 10pm mark, and the evening drawing to a close, Gallagher asked the Inverness crowd ‘When does it get dark?? Does it ever get bloody dark in Inverness?’ Dusk had just crept in as Dont Look Back In Anger finished, before the horn section started the unmistakable into to The Beatles classic All You Need Is Love, giving us another massive Inverness karaoke, Noel and his High Flying BIrds took their bows and the evening was over. And virtually right on cue, the rain started. Well, it is Scotland after all.

For as much as Liam Gallagher was the perfect front man for Oasis, Noel Gallgher was always the talent behind the songs. Tonight he demonstrated that talent in spades. He was faultless, his band were on top form, the music was fantastic, the setting was picturesque, the crowd couldnt complain having been entertained so well, it was just a magic gig.

Some Might Say Liam is Oasis, but theres no doubting the most obvious of them all. All Your Need Is Noel.
