All the way from Sydney in Australia, tonight's support Yours Truly are an ideal choice of opener for the show.
The pop punk four piece ooze energy throughout their set, with the members constantly on the move around the Academy's stage.
Their setup is one which we don't often see from pop punk bands, as they go for 2 guitarists, a vocalist and a drummer. No bassist in sight at all but this doesn't stop the ever growing crowd getting into their bouncy tunes.
Tracks from their latest EP "Afterglow" feature heavily in the set, and they're a band definitely worth checking out!
Headliners Sum 41 take to the stage, opening with a trio of older songs "Motivation", "The Hell Song" and "We're All To Blame" which send the crowd into a frenzy.
Their crowd interaction is superb, with frontman Deryck Whibley leading a Billie Joe Armstrong esque "hey ho" call and response during "Underclass Hero".
With new album "Order In Decline" due for release on the 19th July, it's no surprise to hear some new songs in the set tonight. The first of these which we get is "Out For Blood". Recently released as a single it has a much heavier sound to it than a lot of Sum 41's older songs, and comes across absolutely huge in a live setting.
Things are then thrown back to 2011's "Jessica Kill", and with it being the 15th anniversary of the album "Chuck" we also get "Some Say" from that album, before we get another newbie "A Death In The Family" which again gives a promising vibe of what the new album will be like.
A drum solo from Frank Zummo is a tribute to Linkin Park, as he drums along to a few of their tracks while the rest of the band take a breather from the stage.
A high octane cover of the Queen classic "We Will Rock You" is followed by energetic run throughs of 2001 hit "In Too Deep" and the main set is then closed with 2002's "Still Waiting".
For the encore we have the live debut of new song "Never There", which showcases a softer side of the new material. Things are then thrown way back to 2000 with an old fan favourite "Machine Gun" getting a much welcomed outing, and the show is finished off with the song which really kicked Sum 41 into the big time, "Fat Lip".
A band growing in sound with every album and still putting on a tremendous live show, Sum 41 are ones not to be missed!
