Pixx comes of age with new Album launch at Electrowerkz

The “sound of the 80’s” has been creeping its way back into the music industry more and more lately. This synth pop sound is especially noticeable the moment by Hannah Rodgers, known as Pixx, comes on stage and begins to play.

Tonight’s bill seem to fit this theme nicely with support dwelling from Limerick,s ’Sinead O’Brien’, a dreamy laden post-punk infused verse with poetic song writing. In the past she has collaborated with The Maccabees and Yuki from ‘Bo Ningen’. You can hear the inspiration from literary idols in the verses and song writing, with the impressive vocals.

Electrowerkz had nicely filled up with punters by the time the band ‘Fake Laugh’ came on stage with a more up-tempo guitar sound interlined, with twangy catchy dream like melody. A Musical project by Kamran Khan, emotional impressive set played in a manner reminiscent to ‘Mac DeMarco’, driving along a sun drenched Californian Highway!

When 23 year old Hannah Rodgers released her first record as Pixx two years ago, she modelled her own image with ‘The Age of Anxiety’ with in itself a reflection of “a state of mind’ at the time.

As Pixx comes on stage tonight, stylishly performs the songs ‘Small Mercies’ and album opener ‘Andean Condor’, “maturity is just a myth” springs to mind with a more traditional electronic style with an indie rock palette. This could well be the motto summing up the 23 year old’s second album, played in almost its entirety at tonight’s gig, a work of contemporarily light-hearted and meaningful sonic songs. It’s a playful way how Pixx performs, to escape the pressure associated with let’s say growing older with stylised synth pop.

Hannah Rodgers breaks out with a more gritty Guitar sound with the Song ‘Mary Magdalene’, which is a step forward from her earlier folk-edged zeitgeist beginnings.

The new songs will certainly make you dance, smile and think at the same time about the times and day and age we live in.

As of tonight’s gig goes, Pixx just showed how unique her electronica, creative song writing has become and has come of age since the moody anxiety former style, one hoping bigger things are yet to come in the near future, playing her songs to bigger audiences.
