★★★☆☆ (3.5/5)

The band, formed in Greenwich, London in 2009 currently consists of Dan Heptinstall, Max Thomas, Scott Milsom, Sam Brace, Thom Mills and Lorna Thomas. Tonight would see them run thru a setlist which was made up from tracks off their four albums Forge & Flagon from 2012, Down On Deptford Broadway from 2014, The Devil, The Heart And The Fight from 2016 and the recent release The Story Is... from 2019.

Opening with 38 Minutes, My Distraction and Tragedy In a Minor, the bands energy and enthusiasm for the music shone thru and the crowd were on their feet from the get go. If The Gaff Dont Let Us Down from the debut album was next up and the crowd were loving it. For people new to the band, it was very similar to seeing The Pogues, except they were English and the singers had a full set of teeth.

Geordie Lad, Cathy, Forty Pound Wedding, the songs kept coming and the party carried on, the Glasgow audience were loving it so much that singer Lorna Thomas decided to leave to stage and join the audience for a dance! She was made most welcome too!

Bonny Away, This Is War and Trouble On Oxford Street saw the evening draw to a close, allowing the band a much deserved break and the crowd a chance to refill on oxygen. There was so much energy, so much enthusiasm, great to see so many smiling and singing along to the music, the band were obviously feeding from the crowd too as they gave their all. A very impressive show from the Greenwich band.

If you are a lover of modern folk music you cant go wrong in catching Skinny Lister live, a thoroughly decent night out.
