Yeovil rockers The Pineapple Thief rolled into St Lukes, the intimate venue in Glasgow’s east end and wowed the crammed audience with their brand of progressive rock music. Influenced by the likes of Pink Floyd, the band was formed by lead singer Bruce Soord in 1999 in Somerset, England, and have 12 albums under their belt, whilst establishing a cult following.

The setlist tonight consisted mainly of tracks from their 2016 album Your Wilderness and their most recent release, 2018’s Dissolution album. Both albums saw new drummer Gavin Harrison on board, who has previously worked with Porcupine Tree and King Crimson.

Try As I Might, In Exile, Alone At Sea, Threatening War and Far Below started proceedings and set the mood for the evening to follow. Catchy rock tunes, engaging lyrics, enhanced guitar solos and solid drumming make up most of how the gig would flow. The audience were spellbound as the music kept flowing, 3000 Days, Shed A Light, Part Zero, all showcasing the guitar talents of Soord up front and ably assisted by Jon Sykes on bass and George Marios on guitar. With Harrison on drums and Steve Kitch on keyboards, this makes up for a very tight sound, a band which is performing at the top of their game and an audience in full appreciation of the music being played.

White Mist and Nothing At Best closed the first part of the show, and after a short break the band returned for a 3 track encore. Not Naming Any Names, The Final Thing On My Mind and Snowdrops concluding this evenings proceedings. The band left the stage to a rapturous applause as the audience dwindled away into the cold Glasgow night. A great set of progressive rock music, The Pineapple Thief are a very decent band well worth catching live.
