QUEEN ZEE // THINK TANK?, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

Queen Zee return to Newcastle for an unforgettable show

QUEEN ZEE

★★★★☆

On a cold rainy evening what more could want than a punk filled night! Queen Zee have just released their self-titled debut album and what a response they’ve received. Their album has a unique sound which has managed to catch the attention many new fans which has made this tour one of their biggest yet. With a reputation of putting on incredible shows I can pleasantly say all my expectations were exceeded! However, starting the evening off was the Indie-Punk group itoldyouiwouldeatyou.

Itoldyouiwouldeatyou has seven members based across the UK and put on a hell of a show towards the ever increasing audience. Vocalist Joey Ashworth who identifies as non-binary and bi-sexual has ploughed all the negativity he’s received into producing a platform to spread a positive message. In their shot set you could feel the emotion radiating of Joey. I have high hopes for the group as their performance was on point and they did a great job of warming up the crowd. Included in their performance was the rendition of their most popular track ‘Get Terrified’ as well as lesser known tracks like ‘Divine Violence’ and ‘Young American.’ Overall, I really enjoyed their set and will like to see them backs in ‘the toon’ very soon.

Queen Zee! I have been listened to the group for less than two months after finding them just by chance and immediately I was hooked. From them appearing on stage there was non-stop commotion from within the crowd. It was such a great scene to see for a band this young to have so many dedicated fans. Starting their set off the group began with ‘Victim Age’ which went down a storm! The crowd chanted the lyrics at the top of their lungs and it was a sight to hear! ‘Loner’ was up next and is one of the most popular tracks from their new album and it’s no wonder why with its catchy lyrics. The third track of the evening was Lucy Fur which is a great track to hear live.

Some of the highlights of the evening were during one of the tracks called ‘Porno’ which the audience loved and the response the group got was great. With the night coming to a close vocalist Zena Davine addressed the crowd saying ‘this is going to be our last song’ and began playing ‘Sissy Fists’ where many members of the crowd were pulled onto the stage including myself! I was lost for words. As soon as the track ended and everyone left the stage the crowd chanted ‘one more song, one more song.’ The crowd were then treated with ‘I Hate Your New Boyfriend.’ Queen Zee, are a rising band that are going to explode this year and I cannot wait to see them again. If you get a chance to see them live make sure you do! As I cannot recommend it enough!
