SLASH FT. MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS // SEC HALL 3, GLASGOW

Slash and his band rolled back into Glasgow as part of the Living The Dream tour, and rocked the ‘big red shed’ to its foundations!

SLASH FT. MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS

★★★☆☆

Ably assisted by the usual suspects, Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, they played thru a number of tracks including new material, more well known Slash numbers from recent albums, and one gold nugget of GNR to keep the Glasgow crowd happy.

Kicking off with The Call of The Wild from the album Living The Dream, the latest record would provide more than a large chunk of this evening setlist, along with big hitters from the first 3 albums Slash, Apocalyptic Love and World On Fire.  Halo, Ghost, Back From Cali, all tremendous songs from previous albums and the vocals form the superbly talented Myles Kennedy fits the music perfectly.

It’s a strange one tonight to be back in the old Hall 4 in the SECC, but as the Hydro is already booked out, it’s the biggest venue available for this show, and nice to reminisce of all the big names who played here in the past, in the pre-Hydro days of yore.

Back to the set, We’re All Gonna Die, Doctor Alibi, By The Sword then Nightrain, the GNR classic and the crowd went crazy.  Strange to follow such a crowd pleaser with a mellow Starlight after, it calmed the Glasgow audience back down to a simmer.  Youre a Lie and World on Fire closed the first set, and after a short break the band returned for 2 more tracks, Avalon and Anastasia.

This was a decent set by the band, Slash in his usual form, fantastic solos which just fly away off the cuff, tho tonight I feel they were overdone in parts, the number of newer tracks also made flat points in the show and the inclusion of more familiar work from his back catalogue may have kept the crowd on the boil for longer.  Compare to his last show in Glasgow to promote World On Fire, he covered a number of classic GNR tracks and others by Velvet Revolver and a Deep Purple cover too, and that was non stop rock.  Tonight was for me a bit……..meh!  Great support at the start by Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons who gave us solo work, plus Hawkwind and Motorhead tracks too.  Slash just failed to deliver the big guns.
