LAURAN HIBBERD // THINK TANK?, NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
AT HER FIRST HEADLINE SHOW IN NEWCASTLE LAURAN HIBBERD SERENADES THE CROWD WITH HER INCREDIBLE VOICE!
★★★★ ☆ (4/5)
Over the last year there has been an incredible buzz about Lauran Hibberd within the scene and it’s clear why!
Her awesome stage presence was accompanied by her cracking voice and brilliant lyrics. However, first up was local lads Fever Days, who were brilliant with their lo-fi vibe. It’s refreshing to see a support band with so much energy, props go to the drummer especially. After briefly listening to them before the gig they were a perfect match for Hibberd. The best part and most amusing when the vocalist told the crowd ‘this song’s about drugs. It’s called drugs’ which caused laughs from the growing crowd.
Now with the crowd growing it was finally time for one of the best upcoming artists to take to the stage with her band. After the first track Call Shotgun Lauran spoke to the audience saying ‘this is my first headline show in Newcastle thanks for coming along.’ Bang Bang Bang and Hoochie were next which had the crowd stunned with her awesome voice. Skipping to What Do Girls Want? Lauran asked the audience if they knew ‘what girls want?’
Throughout her set Lauran entertained us with jokes and innuendos, she also expressed her love for the night club Flares which has a 70s vibe. For her to have a rapport like this with the audience at such an early stage in her career.
With night starting to draw to a close I was pleased to hear her new track Everything is Dogs which gained the attention of the crowd. Sugardaddy was up next brilliant to hear live finally. With it time for the last song Lauran told the crowd ‘we won’t be doing an encore, so don’t even start chanting one more song.’ The last track of the evening was Shark Week which end with enormous cheers from the crowd. Lauran Hibberd and her band have gained so much attention and I can’t wait to see where they go from here.
