A special mention however to Carner’s support, up and coming Glasgow singer songwriter, Joesef. He has a subtle soulful vibe to his music. He and his band creates a very funky but relaxed lo-fi sound which makes it enjoyable to listen to and they are a great warm up act for a performer like Loyle Carner.

Having just emerged earlier in the year, it's exciting to see where his talent will take him, and he is an asset to the thriving Scottish music scene and the prospects it is producing at the minute.

Joesef is on playing his own headline show at SWG3 in December, tickets are on sale now.

It was now time for the headline act. Carner appeared on stage and was greeted with a humongous roar from the Glasgow crowd. He was wearing a Scotland top with McCoist on the back, a brave choice perhaps; depending on what way you swing. He related with the crowd by saying how his mum is in fact Scottish, making him half Scottish by proxy.

“This songs about falling in love with an older woman” is how Carner introduced tune ‘Damselfly’. The track is a personal piece, telling the story about how he finds the notion of dating is played out.

Carner dedicated ‘Florence’ to his mum, who he said that he missed when he was on the road. He then went on to introduce popular track ‘Angel’ by dropping the name of collaborator Tom Misch, who he apologised on behalf of for not being in attendance due to simply ‘being too famous’.

The Mercury prize nominee’s stage set up was unusual to say true least. One the floor lay a rug, with an armchair sitting on stage right, and three wallpapered walls with various football tops hanging on display. It gave the feeling that we were watching him rap from the comfort of his own home. This was a lovely touch

Carner praises the crowd for being the first ever audience he has performed to who have managed to clap along in time to tune ‘The Isle of Arran’.

Carner’s sound is a very warm, comforting type of rap. Along with his realist lyrics who tells stories about love and mental health just to name a couple topics. He possess a gift to craft a beautiful narrative over catchy beats and melodies. The music he creates could be enjoyed by anyone, it creates a great ambience to an occasion.

Loyle Carner still has a large portion of his UK tour to go, as well as travelling through the continent into December. The UK stint is sold out but if you get the opportunity to see him in the future I highly recommend you get yourself down to a show.
