THE DUNTS // THE CAVES, EDINBURGH
The Dunts kicked off their tour in Edinburgh on Wednesday night, playing to a packed crowd at The Caves in the city’s popular party district; Cowgate.
★★★★★ (5/5)
The council punk band from Glasgow are known for there loud and energetic shows so the punters had a good night ahead of them.
The band set the scene with opener ‘Hampden Cabs’. As soon as the tune kicked off the crowd did similar, making it near impossible to stand static in the intimate venue. During following tunes, frontman Rab Smith consistently interacted with the crowd, making the most their time in the capital. The band are continuing to build a dedicated fan base, which can presumably be due to their solid tunes and likeability as people.
New single ‘Marilyn’ was given a spin. The track is and tribute to legend Marilyn Monroe. On vocal duty for the tune was guitarist Colin McGachy, who lived up to expectations within the crowd.
The 4-piece put a punk twist on an RnB classic ‘Hey Ya’ by Outkast. It’s always a nice surprise to hear a quick cover at a gig, and what makes it that little bit more impressive is when act warps a classic from another genre into their own sound.
The Dunts still have a few dates to go on their tour, and if you’re a fan of up-tempo garage rock, this could be an evening well spent for you.
