The juggernaut keeps rolling for Mason Hill, constantly growing in popularity and with an ever growing fan base, the band are back in their hometown of Glasgow to promote their upcoming debut album, entitled Against The Wall, with a show at Glasgow’s iconic King Tuts Wah Wah Hut venue, which has been sold out for months. No mean feet for the young Glasgow rock outfit.

Main support on the night came from Wolverhampton’s Gin Annie. A 5 piece band of heavy rock performers, the powerhouse builds from front man Dave Foster’s booming voice, thru Byron Garbett and Brian Green on guitars, to Phil Burrows on bass and bringing up the rear, Jack Ryland-Smith on drums and percussion. The band gave a great account of themselves and went down well with the Glasgow auldience, a perfect fit for a night of rock.

Now it was time for the headliners. Formed in 2013 by Scott Taylor on lead vocals and James Bird on guitar, they were accompanied on stage by fellow band members Marc Montgomery on guitar, Matthew Ward on bass and Craig McFetridge bringing up the rear with the drums. Their short but blistering set gave them the chance to run thru the tracks from the bands forthcoming album ‘Against The Wall’, which went down well with their already big following. Saturday nights set reassured their legions of followers what they’re capable of, and showed how they have developed their sound over the last few years of touring, and being in the studio.

Opening with ‘Survive’, you can hear so many influences in the music from the word go, in particular fans of the band Black Stone Cherry will love Mason Hill. Following with ‘We Pray’, ‘No Regret’, ‘Out Of Reach’, BSC’s influence is more evident as the night goes on, with a sprinkle of Nickleback, and a hint of Theory Of A Deadman, this is not to distract from the music Mason Hill make in their own right, very accomplished musicians and they know how to make a great loud rock song. ‘Hold On’ (a particular favourite of mine and a highlight on the forthcoming album along with Now You See Me) ‘D.N.A.’, ‘Who We Are’, all great rockers and cant be beaten played live, loud, up close and personal in the surroundings of King Tuts intimate venue. ‘Against The Wall’, the albums title track followed on, before ‘Now You See Me’, an earlier single release and finishing up in style with the magnificent Where I Belong, and the night was over. The legion of fans crammed into the venue certainly didnt go home unhappy on this display!

Mason Hill are a fantastic young live band, hopefully their debut album reaches out to a new army of fans and carries them on to the success they deserve. Tremendous musicians, the vocal talents of Scott Taylor are undeniable and surely its only a matter of time before we see them packing out the bigger arenas. These guys are one band you cannot miss, Mason Hill are the real deal !!
