The Mysterines began the show at the intimate Cambridge Junction venue, opening for the Last Shadow Puppets co-frontman/solo artist, Miles Kane. The Mysterines are an extremely young trio, who are all in their teens and eager to show off their freah talent. The Liverpudlian group embarked onto the stage with a great sense of enthusiasm which grew as their performance went on. You could easily hear the influence Miles Kane had on the young group with similarly heavy guitar tones, and exuding confidence on stage. I think The Mysterines have a very bright future and they're a name to look out for.
Miles Kane came on with a strong posture, waving his hand high in the air to the screaming audience - his experience was clear from the get-go. He started the show with 'Counting Down The Days', showing off his unique vocal style to get the crowd warmed up, before the more intense songs were played later in the show. Kane then instantly went into 'Inhaler' from his debut album, the crowd knew as soon as the starting riff was played and started to jump around with excitement. Kane tended to leave the mic to go to the edge of the stage for his fans to see his guitar skills in clear view: his showman style was clear to see from the professional nature which he brought to the show.
Kane played a varied set of songs which were received differently - songs like 'Don't Forget Who You Are' and 'Rearrange' were sang by every member of the audience, word for word. This contrasted with songs such as 'Silverscreen' and 'Cry On My Guitar', from his upcoming album Coup De Grace. Debuting these songs live was a bold move, but time went on the crowd grew to enjoy them and sing during the choruses.
My favourite part of the show was the collective singing of 'It's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming home, footballs coming home!' in between almost every song played - this was picked up on by Kane who changed the opening line to his song 'Rearrange' to 'it's coming, it's coming home', of course being well received by the football loving crowd. Another great highlight was 'Don't Forget Who You Are' which was louder than the 'footballs coming home' chants between the songs, this one was sung with great passion from both Kane and the audience.
More incredible moments included his newest song 'Coup De Grace', this was especially interesting not only because of the sign almost singing along with Kane but also because of the catchy chorus and fascinating guitar playing that Kane expertly presented. I personally found the song better live than the recorded version which shows his talent is better unedited.
Overall a very good show; Kane's intelligent guitar playing (which is getting better year by year) made the concert feel electric, the guitar performance matched with Kane's excellent singing. The only letdowns were the lack of communication with the audience between the songs, which did feel strangely awkward due to the silence. Kane also only had one encore song which left many fans feeling disappointed and surprised, many even waited up to ten minutes after to see if a double encore was happening, but they were left even more disappointed. They exited the Junction believing they could've had more.
