On support duties tonight at King Tut's, was Liverpool-based musician Zuzu. Sadly as she arrived on stage she announced that she was very unwell, but admirably didn’t want to not perform; and so came on and powered through two songs before having to leave stage. The crowd were very understanding of the situation and showed loads of support as she struggled her way through her songs.

King Tut's very quickly filled up as it got closer to the time for The Academic to come on and
entertain the sold-out venue. The four-piece Irish indie rock band were playing as part of the Good Karma Club Tour - curated by BBC Radio 1's Abbie McCarthy - and it was the second to last night before hitting up Manchester.

After a bit of a wait after the shortened support slot, the guys were met on stage with a wall of screaming fans - they started off with their first tune "Permanent Vacation"; the first of many bouncy indie beats. As they announced their next song to be "Mixtape 2003", which is one of my personal favourites, it was clear that it was a very popular song for the band and the audience sang along with them word for word while dancing around. It went down very well as the fans showed dedication to their older material and it brought the crowd to life very early on in the night.

The night was a huge success for The Academic, as they had some very sweaty but happy fans leaving the venue at the end of the night. They are definitely a band to watch out for as they are on the rise.
