★★★☆☆ (3.5/5)

Having attended a few gigs at the Attic Bar before, I was aware that it was quite a tight little venue. Knowing that Marsicans had sold out I was intrigued to see how all the people were going to squeeze in. Being one of the first people in the door, the room began to fill quite fast as opening Indigo Velvet took to the stage.

Indigo Velvet are a Scottish 4-piece band from Edinburgh, their style described as ‘Tropical Pop’. The band recently brought 2017 to a close with a BBC Introducing live session, their biggest hometown show at the 750 person capacity Liquid Rooms and a feature on This Morning on ITV.  Even though the crowd was still filling the room, the boys began their set, playing songs from their latest EP Vol. 1 as well as some track they had released previous to the EP. Each song reminded me of summer and had such a feel-good tune to them. From bouncing around the small space they had and looking like they were having an absolute ball, it wasn’t at all long until the crowd joined them swaying and dancing along to their warm harmonies. They are definitely blowing up and a group to look out for!

Now that the room was pretty much full, next on the stage came another Scottish band with Vistas, which include 4 young boys also from Edinburgh. Since forming in 2016 the band have broken into the music scene grabbing the hearts of many people, especially in Scotland and that was really quite apparent when they stepped on to the stage as the crowd roared. Their catchy tunes filled the room and their fun and energetic stage presence had the crowd going wild, clapping and singing along with them, especially when they announced they were filming a music video. I have no doubt that Vistas are going to be popping up everywhere and playing even bigger venues, so now is your chance to catch them small and intimate when they tour Scotland in May!

After Vistas left the stage, the crew got ready for Marsicans to take over. Once the stage was ready, the lights went dark and intro music began before the boys bounced on stage and dived right into their first song. There is nothing quite like a little bit of technical difficulty, as the song went on it became apparent that one of the microphones weren’t working and there was a slight issue with a guitar, but that didn’t stop the lads from providing some banter or the crowd from having a good time.

Despite the brief technical issues at the start, the tone was set for the rest of the show. Like the previous bands, the Marsicans sound is very upbeat and catchy. It’s always great to see a band show so much raw energy and how much they are enjoying themselves while performing. The boys have proven how much Glasgow love them by selling out their headline show and by how the crowd sang and jumped along with them for the entire gig.
