The support act for The Fratellis were two-piece Black Pistol Fire, who brought a lot of energy to open up the gig with some very bluesy songs. The Fratellis then came on around 9 o’clock and the presence of them on stage was absolutely phenomenal from the outset.

Opening with an absolute classic from their first album, an absolute thunder of screams erupted from the crowd as they burst into 'Henrietta'. I was quite surprised they decided to open with this, as they have a new album out I presumed they would open with one of their new songs. I felt this was a good decision though as it gave the crowd something familiar to listen to before introducing their new single afterwards, ‘Starcrossed Losers’. Their new album is quite a contrast to their previous effort Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied and I feel there are some real up-beat songs in there, which describes The Fratelli’s down to a T. The vocals from Jon Fratelli were on point, especially for their new single which displayed an extended range from the tenured frontman.

The atmosphere was the one thing that pierced through for experience for me, I have seen The Fratellis before headlining at the Party at the Palace festival and the energy from the crowd there was unreal. However, I feel from a fan's perspective that seeing The Fratellis in their hometown in an amazing venue is something special, and they made that aware to the crowd. I always love seeing crowds that are mixed ages, it shows how the band have connected with such different generations.

Jon introduced the next song they were playing by saying ‘we’re going to play you the first song we ever played here’ which I felt made the gig that more special. The crowd at the front were going absolutely mental for ‘Chelsea Dagger’ - the hit single off their first album - which I was surprised to see that they decided not to play this last, instead opting to play a cover of Dion's 'Runaround Sue' to close their set.

Overall The Fratellis did not disappoint: I have a good feeling about this new album they have released as it shows a more diverse side of the band that we haven’t seen before. however they have stuck to their guns on the energetic side. I would definitely recommend buying a ticket to see these guys as they are such a joy to watch.
