The show was opened by Watford four-piece Nervus, who instantly won over this Birmingham crowd. Instrumentals that you just couldn't resist moving to, coupled with lyrics that will connect deeply with many, Nervus fired up every heart in the room. A joyous half hour was ended with ‘It Follows’, which the band announced they were dedicating to trans people. A statement that was met by a roar from everyone present. Fans joined the band on stage to sing along to a song about just being comfortable in your own skin. It was a unifying sight, a rarity in today’s society.

There was a change of atmosphere when Dublin boys Fangclub entered the stage. Blistering energy, raw vocals and chunky riffs right from the get go, they really gave this crowd something to dig their teeth into. Huge tunes like Bullet HeadBad Words and new single All Fall Down got the blood pumping and it was hard to see any reason why these guys won’t be headlining shows like this in the near future.

Just as everyone's organs were beginning to recover, the lights dimmed for the main event. Before they’d even played the first note, the pop punk quartet were met with the loudest of roars. The crowd was fired up and right from the get go, the pits were open. Opener ‘Nearby Catfight’ gave a small glimpse of how high the energy levels were in the room. These levels would hit their max during big hitters ‘Owning Your Okayness’ and ‘Prism’. I can’t imagine many voice boxes were in good shape after seeing how the crowd sung wonderfully along to every word. ‘Brain Food’ sparked even more chaos in the centre of the room before ‘Brickwork’ ignited the voices of all around for more bouncy, sing along choruses.

The whole night was an eruption of melodic pop punk mixed with the passion and intensity you’d always expect from a pop punk gig. The way the whole band commanded the stage showed that they’re more than ready for the bigger things that are no doubt coming their way.
