Formed in 2013 by twin sisters Hannah and Chloe van Thompson, The Van T's have won over numerous fans already despite their newcomer status, with their rapturous surf-pop and rock swagger balanced by delicate sugar-pop harmonies. The Van T’s have already performed at a few popular festivals across the UK recently and in Dundee they happily performed to a more intimate audience as support for Wolf Alice on their small tour in August last year. The band have also translated their success into radio play in countries worldwide, enjoying widespread praise from a variety of publications.

The first support of the evening was The Botanics from Aberdeen. Band members James, Fraser and Mark performed a lot of original numbers, some that didn't even have names yet. It was their first time performing together as a band however each member had previously performed in The Tunnels as part of previous bands. They had a great set, which kicked off the evening on a good note with a sense of more to come.

The second support was Harlitones, formed in January 2016 and have since released an EP and a single. The band consists of Calum McGee (vocals, bass guitar), Joseph Quinlan (Lead guitar) and Jesus Rojas (Drums, backing vocals): a three piece that has their guitar-driven melodies front and center with soaring vocals and hard hitting beats. The group have developed a large following in Aberdeen, as well as travelling further afield to play in cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow. Currently, Harlitones are writing new music in anticipation of recording a second EP and are in the process of arranging live dates and a potential tour for the rest of 2018.

Over the past year, The Van T’s have developed a captivating performance that perfectly compliments their unique sound. Each member of the band commands the stage, but without arrogance. This a band that simply makes you want to become their fifth member.

As the screaming guitars reach their climax, it’s noticeable that the disinterested audience that were having to be coaxed towards the stage are now much closer – their attention grabbed. They had a great set and an amazing audience with lots of friends and family were in the crowd helping support the band. The evening had a great atmosphere and it got really packed just before they came on stage.
