After winning the Breakthrough Artist of the YeaR award in the 2017 Scottish Music Awards; completing a sell-out twelve-date tour across the UK last December as well as touring with the likes of Rag’N’Bone Man and Milky Chance in Europe and America; Lewis Capaldi continues his rise to stardom in 2018.

Capaldi learned to play guitar at the age of nine and began to sing in pubs at the age of twelve, but the now 21-year-old he rose following the release of his first track 'Bruises' in the middle of 2017, which quickly gained 28 million plays on Spotify worldwide making him the fastest ever unsigned artist to reach 25 million plays in the platform. This incredible statistic and his prowess at both performing and songwriting soon earned him a record deal with Virgin and Capitol Records.

The support act was AU/RA - a singer and songwriter from the Caribbean Islands - accompanied with a “one man band” on the tour called Colton. They both performed amazingly on the stage and were so confident with their set. She just recently released a new single called 'Panic Room',  a very poignant song about anxiety and self doubt. It isn’t an easy subject, but it’s something that needs to be talked about more so she has a great platform to raise awareness. She was the only support for the night and made sure to sow a great atmosphere in the room before Lewis Capaldi came on stage.

With an illuminated backdrop the stage saw four black silhouettes with Capaldi remaining lit, allowing his fragile yet powerful voice to be the centre focus for the crowd. Capaldi played a mixture new and old songs, with all four songs from his debut EP 'Bloom' – an EP which sold out all 150 physical copies in only ninety seconds – being deafeningly sung along by the crowd. He also played his upcoming single 'Rush' and the crowd was more than happy to hear it before the release date in late February 2018.

When going into the venue normally before and during support acts it is still quiet and it gets close to the main act it gets busy. However for this evening the venue was fully packed from the start of the night and it only got busier as the night went on.

The venue was perfect as the acoustics sounded great and all focus was purely on the music and the atmosphere created throughout the night. With him only having 4 songs out, selling out a 1300 capacity room in Glasgow is an amazing achievement.  Being his biggest headline show ever, I imagine that was a great night for him.

Lewis performed effortlessly and his voice was amazing, just as expected. No doubt the rest of his other tour dates were to the same level. His stage presence is something unique: you could tell he is now comfortable to performing as he has been flying about for many concerts over the past few months. He was so relaxed up on stage and was just enjoying performing for all his fans.

Lewis Capaldi next appearance in Scotland will be taking on the main-stage at TRNSMT Festival in July opening up the stage for The Killers headline set performance.
