Peter Hook and The Light lit up the intimate SWG3 venue in Glasgow at the weekend, and the packed crowd were delighted to see the man in such a close up concert hall.  This tour was to highlight the New Order albums Technique and Republic, both albums played in full in the second set.

First up tho was a small set of Joy Division tunes.  Hook and fellow bandmate Bernard Sumner founded Joy Division back in 1976, both having been inspired by a Sex Pistols concert in Manchester.  Tonight Hook and his band played thru tracks such as No Love Lost, Warsaw, Leaders of Men, Digital, Autosuggestion and closed the first part of the set with a storming version of Transmission.

Onto the main section of the show, and the first album on the list, the 1989 New Order record Technique’.  Including the hits Fine Time and Round & Round, Hook and his bands version of the album remains true to the original recordings, and had the crowd in full voice on the bigger hits.

Next up the follow up album, 1993’s Republic.  With the main hits Regret and World (The Price Of Love), the album its self, as with Technique, was a number one in the UK and possibly caught the band at their peak.  The main tracks went down well with the crowd and even the lesser known album tracks received a huge roar from the Glasgow audience, Hook and the band were on top form.

In between the 3 sets played so far the band had retired for a short break.  On return for the encore these main tracks are basically is what most people had come to see.  The usual set would see the band start the encore with World In Motion, but being fully aware of it being an England World Cup Song and that not likely to be received too well here, the list was changed to start with Ceremony, which was a Joy Division track that was recorded as New Orders debut single, followed by Blue Monday, Transmission and finishing the evening with the Joy Division classic Love Will Tear Us Apart.

Tonight the band were solid.  Hook on vocals and bass, Yves Altana on bass, Martin Rebelski on keys, David Potts on guitars and Paul Kehoe on drums.  They gave it their all, and the crowd reciprocated.  The encore especially saw the roof nearly lifted off the venue. A terrific gig for lovers of 80s, electronic and dance music, and for those who love to relive their youth every few weeks!
