Lucky enough to be standing left front of the stage. Looking around this beautiful Edwardian concert hall, it’s clear that not only its 2,200 capacity is filled to the brim with Jack Savoretti’s lively fans but also in this perfectly rounded building, regardless of where seated, we were all guaranteed a clear view of the stage with optimum acoustics.
As the lights dim, crowds cheer and whistle with appreciation as Jack appears on the stage, oh so effortlessly sexy with his mop like, just out of bed hair, dressed in denim grey skinny jeans and open collar tight blue shirt, standing with his signature red scarf hanging from the mic. The crowd calm to the sound of his melodic, wild west type whistling to introduce ‘Sleep No More’ from his latest album of the same title. This song about a lover’s tiff, flourishes quickly from a soft ballad into an upbeat rock tempo, foot tapping, whistle along, enjoyable track.
The tracks were mainly from his latest album ‘Sleep No More’, released October 2016, which Jack describes as ‘a love letter to my wife’ stating ‘it’s about the stuff that keeps you up at night’. Tracks from this album included ‘When We Were lovers, I’m yours and Lullaby loving’, a personal favourite of mine in the way that it brought a Mediterranean flamenco style with fast rhythmic clapping through the chorus. Rock/flamenco a first for me, loved it!
Songs performed from the album ‘Written in Scars’ released Feb 2016 included ‘Tie Me Down, Home and Helpless’, ‘Helpless’ quoted by Jack as ‘Being a sad song cleverly disguised as a happy song’

Whether you have heard of Jack Savoretti or not you can be guaranteed it’s not hard to be gratified and appreciate what he does as an acoustic singer/song writer. Savoretti hits those powerful high notes with intensity, with his own unique style and raspy voice and can slide almost instantly into a soft mellowing folky/ soft rock ballad, he has an amazing ability to take his very personal and emotional poetry and turn them into his own style of rock, which in my opinion, some of his songs can be closely compared to the likes of Paulo Nuttini, another Anglo Italian singer/song writer.
Overall a much-enjoyed gig, from a freedom loving artist who turned down a big record label, yet currently touring internationally and in my opinion it won’t be long before Savoretti is known and loved by many many more.
