What can I say, Amy McDonald rocked the Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow. Last night up also mark the year of 10 years to the day since Amy McDonald got our first platinum record. Amy played two shows at the Barrowlands in Glasgow. With this being a hometown show, everyone's friends family and old supporters came to watch her take the stage.
Amy took to the stage just after 9pm. She began playing some old songs from the very first record and some new songs from her newest album (Under Stars). She played to a crowd of nearly 2000 people that night.
Amy Macdonald rocked the stage with the crowd singing along to her classic songs, as well as listening to her newer songs. After the first couple of songs she greeted her fans talking about what she has been doing and what her future plans were.
The lighting during the set was changing constantly keeping the show behind her interesting, the show also had confetti which rained down on the fans unexpectedly in the fourth and last songs. Fans came from near and far to see the show at the famous Glasgow venue which didn’t disappoint with a nearly hour and a half long set.
That night was also a very special night as Amy was inducted into the Barrowland Hall of Fame, Amy accepted the award from Billy Coyle in the dressing room of the famous venue, and is a favourite amongst a lot of the rock superstars of today. Selling over 12 million records, The talented Amy Macdonald is one of the biggest stars to come out of Scotland ever, and has a great connection to the Barrowland and has for years. David Bowie, The Ramones, The Bay City Rollers are just some of the famous icons that have been inducted.

That night Amy also performed a song called “This Christmas Day”, This single will raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s Research UK, which is now the UK’s leading cause of death - overtaking cancer and heart disease. The single was written about Amy losing her Grandmother to the illness and since last Christmas, another 200,000 people have developed dementia in the UK.
In a quote Amy said: “I wrote a song about Alzheimer’s on a previous album (Left That Body Long Ago). In the years since, I’ve been blown away by the response from people who have gone through similar experiences. But I wanted to write a song that explained how I felt at a time of year when it affected me most, and ‘This Christmas Day’ was born. Christmas is an extremely poignant time of year, but it’s not always a happy time. Christmas became a challenge for us, and my latest single reflects that. The music video is made up of family film footage. It’s easy to say ‘Alzheimer’s – it’s so terrible’, but anyone watching it can see all the laughs, can feel the love and see everything we shared together. It’s easier to then imagine how difficult it must be to suddenly have your world turned upside down when Alzheimer’s comes into your life.”
Recently Amy MacDonald also was one of many special guests busking at Sleep In The Park event in Edinburgh at Princes Street Gardens on Saturday 9th December. The event was set-up by Social Bite which is a charity which raises awareness for Homelessness. The event took place in freezing conditions and raised over £3.6 million to help with those sleeping rough on the streets find a house. Amy played a set full of hits and new songs at the event. She was proud to be part of this event.

Amy played that single in the encore which consisted of three songs all together. All in all the show was great, with old fans of Amy Macdonald, which saw her first shows over ten years ago, to new fans seeing her for the first time at the Barrowlands.
After seeing the show you can easily see why she has sold out two nights at the famous venue. Whenever Amy returns to Glasgow it would be a good choice to see her live, it's a gig that won't disappoint.
