Hailing from, well, just up the road...Edinburgh's Woes kick things off in the best way possible. With their infectious brand of pop punk getting the room jumping from the minute they take the stage, they take their set in their stride. Producing a faultless performance, it's almost as if everyone has just turned up to watch a seamless band practice from the lads. With their self titled EP released so far, and new music hopefully on the way soon, these are definitely ones to look out for!
Up next we have Illinois pop punkers Real Friends. As soon as their set kicks in the band are full of energy, making it clearly evident they are made for venues this size. Some slower moments are thrown into the set, along with discussions of mental health and lead vocalist Dan Lambton reminding everyone that if you need help, then do not be afraid to go and get it, as he's been through it all himself and knows how it feels. Sadly it seems their set is cut a bit short, but this doesn't take away from how amazing they have been. Without a doubt, when they come back for their own headline tour make sure you're there!
As soon as the Real Friends banner is taken down to reveal the As It Is one hidden behind it, the noise levels in the room rise tremendously. Launching straight into the title track from their latest release "Okay", it's difficult to put into words how As It Is captivate the audience. Frontman Patty Walters bounds about like a Duracell bunny on speed, not standing still for a moment. The sold out crowd scream back every word, with highlights in the set coming in the form of debut album singles "Dial Tones" and "Concrete", and "Hey Rachel" (an open apology from Patty to his sister) from their latest release. If you ever get the chance to catch As It Is live, do not pass it up.
A huge white curtain covers the stage while it is prepared for the headliners, and before we know it it's dropping to reveal a very impressive set up with Neck Deep sprinting out and kicking into "Happy Judgement Day" from their new album "The Peace And The Panic". Their setlist is a thing of beauty, with 2015 hit "Gold Steps" third song in, the energy in the room is palpable and doesn't let up the whole evening. We're treated to a lovely acoustic section with lead vocalist Ben Barlow and an acoustic guitar for "Head To The Ground", with him then being joined by bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans for "Wish You Were Here" and "A Part Of Me".
An encore of "Can't Kick Up The Roots" and "Where Do We Go When We Go", complete with confetti cannons and Ben throwing himself into the crowd, ensures that this evening is one that will not be forgotten for a long time.
