Liverpool based trio All We are were the perfect start to the evening. Their funky guitar riffs and dreamy melodies hooked the audience from the first note.  The band formed at Liverpool’s Institute for Performing Arts, LIPA in 2011. Bassist Guro Gikling is from Norway, drummer Rich O'Flynn from Ireland and guitarist Luís Santos from Brazil, the band bring wide range of musical influences to their own music and allow a more rounded and open minded approach to creating their style.

They all sing in high pitched voices .... but don’t let that put you off, their songs have a human heartbeat pulsing beneath each one that is catchy and hypnotizing. Listen to one song and you will find you have accidentally listened to them all without realizing.
Playing songs from their first album and their recently released “Sunny Hills” album they certainly made an impression on the huge crowed that filled the beautiful Church venue in Leeds.

Tonight the crowds were out in force to see Nick Mulvey, It’s been three years since his Mercury Prize nominated debut album, “First Mind” but he hasn’t been taking a break. September saw the release of his second album “Wake up now” that has had rave reviews.
Waiting, the audience is buzzing with anticipation, once on stage Mulvey is able to enchant each and every person in the room with his effortless, humble style. A master of acoustic live performance, his music and songs often politically or socially influenced manage to tell a story about our world while transporting us into another more melodic and warmer one.

When Mulvey played “Cucurucu” the audience suddenly switched on. Every person was singing his song and you could tell that he loved it. Smiling and stepping back from the microphone he let the audience take over and be the stars of his show. His intricate and impressive guitar playing was mesmerising and showed how much studying music in Havana, Cuba has influenced his style. Joined by an equally impressively talented band, each surrounded by an array of instruments you can see that his musical tastes come from all over the world and he includes those sounds within his style to take us on a journey.
Although Mulvey came out for an encore, I don’t think that was enough for this loved up crowed. I urge you to go and catch Mulvey on the rest of this tour but be warned you will go home unwillingly and craving to hear more of his unique sound.
