Taking over everyone’s favourite new venue, the beautiful Saint Luke’s & The Winged Ox, were Yorkshire rock band Marmozets. These guys have been at the forefront of mainstream rock in the past couple of months after releasing two new singles, being featured on Annie Mac and Daniel P Carter’s shows on Radio 1, and leaking details of their upcoming second album ‘Knowing What You Know Now’. The band features two sets of siblings, and this is made apparent through their connection and relationship on stage.
Storming onto the stage and opening with the first single from their new album, ‘Play’ whipped the crowd into a frenzy as they jumped and bounced across the floor, while the next song ‘Move, Shake, Hide’ opened up a pit and the audience were ecstatic to see the power and aggression the band communicated with their music. Becca’s vocals echoed remarkably through the old church as they seamlessly flowed into the energetic ‘Is It Horrible?’, followed by a debut of ‘Suffocation’ from the new album, sounding like a crossover of a heavy metal Muse and a pop-punk Queens of the Stone Age.
Becca complimented the crowd on their energy and the rest of them were evidently grateful to have such a loyal and dedicated fan-base coming out to their shows, and soulfully singing along to every track. The band’s chemistry is exciting to watch as they powered through songs from their debut album, such as ‘Captivate You’, ‘Particle’ and ‘Born Young and Free’ which helped staple an incredibly impressive live show. The punishing riffs sounded huge as they were carefully woven into songs with pounding drum beats to accompany.
Another two songs were played from the up and coming album, ‘Major System Error’ and ‘Habits’ which seem to define their melodic metal sound even more. Marmozets were exhilarating to watch perform and as they ended on their thumping riff-fueled ‘Why Do You Hate Me?’ it was obvious to me as to why these guys are attracting such attention as of late.
