Danish electro-pop trilogy Off Bloom set the tone for the night, commanding the audience to attention through big, synth beats and dark lyrics sung with a sort of raw, emotion and oozing self-confidence that you rarely see in such a young group.
Confidence is certainly a quality not lacking in the young Kosovian singer either as Lipa burst onto the stage to pop banger ‘Hotter Than Hell’. Soulful, effortless vocals and raw, emotive lyrics flow over big, unforgiving beats and catchy melodies to showcase her vibrant signature pop sound.
The high spirits did not subside as she continued to take charge of the stage with sass-packed bangers like Blow Your Mind (Mwah), and IDGAF blasting the crowd with a cool certainty that the brash confidence of her lyrics are not just for show.
That is not to say however that Lipa’s performance could be defined as just an exhibit of self-assertiveness as she reigns back the energy and shows off her flawless vocals through ballads like Thinking ‘Bout You and Goodbye. Her raw- almost desperate sounding- desire for a lost love is a stark contrast to the relentless confidence of before.
Whether it’s through her sublime vocals and tenacious pop riffs; or her perpetually twirling silhouette and obvious and honest love for her art and her fans; Lipa flaunts a consistently captivating performance, making it clear to see why the young pop sensation is tipped for global stardom.
